A Painter’s Honest Take from the Field
We get this question a lot. “Is Fine Paints of Europe really that much better? Is it worth the price?” And the short answer is: yes, but only when it makes sense for your space.
Let’s talk about why some people swear by it, where it shines, and where it might not be the best choice.
If you’ve ever seen a door so glossy it looks like glass, or cabinets that reflect light like polished stone, there’s a good chance that was Fine Paints of Europe. This paint isn’t your run-of-the-mill can you grab off the shelf. It’s imported from the Netherlands, and it’s designed for those who want their paint to do more than just cover a wall. It’s for people who want their space to feel elevated. Luxurious. Intentional.
So what makes it special? First off, the finish is unlike anything else. The gloss levels are so rich and deep that it actually changes how a room feels. Light bounces in ways that most paints can’t replicate. The color stays consistent, and the surface ends up looking smooth and solid, like lacquered wood or even automotive paint. That’s not an exaggeration. When done right, it really is that smooth.
But here’s the part that matters. Fine Paints of Europe is only as good as the person applying it. This paint will highlight every flaw, every missed sanding, every uneven brush stroke. You can’t cut corners with this stuff. It takes time, patience, and experience. You have to know how to prep the surface like a pro, sand between coats, and work in controlled conditions. If any of that’s skipped, the results won’t be worth the price.
Because of that, this paint is best saved for places where the craftsmanship will be noticed. Think entry doors, cabinets, powder rooms, trim in a formal space or areas where the extra effort and cost make sense. It’s not something we’d use in a busy hallway that’s going to get scuffed up or in a space that doesn’t get much light.
We’ve used Fine Paints of Europe on projects where the client wanted something truly special, and the results were stunning. But we’ve also talked clients out of using it when it didn’t fit the space or the budget. There’s no shame in going with something else when the conditions aren’t right. A high end paint applied under the wrong circumstances can actually make a space look worse, not better.
So, is it worth it? If you’re going for a high end, ultrasmooth, furniture quality finish in a space that deserves that level of attention, absolutely. But it’s not a magic can of paint. You’re paying for the skill to apply it just as much as the paint itself.
If you’re considering it for your home, we’d be happy to talk it through and let you know if it’s the right fit. Because around here, we believe in doing things the right way. No shortcuts, no gimmicks. Just honest work that speaks for itself when the light hits it just right.
